The James Bay Inn Restaurant is currently seeking reliable team members to join our front of house team.  Ideally candidates should have a clean presentation & pleasant demeanor, enjoy interacting with the public, reliable, can thrive in a high paced & busy environment and have the ability to pay attention to details. All JBI team members are expected to be dependable, organized and take pride in a job well done.

Notes:

  • Restaurant operating hours are from 7:30 am till 2:PM & 4:30 - 9PM  seven days a week.

  • Opening shifts start prior to opening and closing shifts often finish a bit after 9:PM.

Front of house

Bus Person (part-time) 

Expectations and Responsibilities​

  • Maintain a hygienic working environment in accordance with Vancouver Island Health Authority, the Province of British Columbia and the James Bay Inn standards.

  • Assist the Servers as needed.

  • Comfortable being on your feet for long periods of time

  • Positive attitude

  • Comfortable working alone and within a team setting

  • Ability to communicate with team and management in positive manner.

  • Strictly adhere to WHMIS and MSDS guidelines

  • Follow all health and safety standards developed or adhered to by the James Bay Inn.

  • Provide professional, courteous and efficient presentation of food and beverage service to all guests.

  • Clean and set up tables and perform other food service related duties, including general cleaning and set up.

  • Serve water, coffee and other food and drinks as directed by supervisors.

  •  Complete closing duties, including storing all reusable goods, breaking down goods, cleaning all equipment and areas, returning equipment to proper locations,  restocking items, turning off lights, locking doors, and completing daily cleaning checklist.

  • Set up, stock, and maintain work areas. Inspect the cleanliness and presentation of all china, glass, and silver prior to use. Maintain cleanliness of work areas throughout the day, practicing clean-as-you-go procedures and utilizing cleaning to adhere to health and safety standards

Server (part-time) 

Expectations and Responsibilities​

  • Due to British Columbia Liquor laws servers serving alcohol must 19+. 

  • Knowledge of wines, spirits, cocktails and safe food handling.

  • Maintain a hygienic working environment in accordance with Vancouver Island Health Authority, the Province of British Columbia and the James Bay Inn standards

  • Comfortable standing for long periods of time

  • Positive attitude

  • Comfortable working alone and within a team setting

  • Ability to communicate with team and management in positive manner.

The James Bay Inn currently seeks reliable, mature, and energetic individuals to join our amazing kitchen team. Ideally candidates should enjoy working with others, are reliable, can thrive in a high paced & busy environment and have the ability to pay attention to details. All JBI team members are required to be dependable, organized and take pride in a job well done.

Notes:

  • Our food operating hours are from 7:30 am till 10:PM seven days a week.

  • Opening shifts often start prior to opening and closing shifts often finish later than 10:PM.

  • The kitchen simultaneously serves the JBI Pub and the James Bay Inn Restaurant. We also serve take out and delivery through DOORDASH.

Dishwasher/Prep Cook 

Dishwasher/Prep Cook (full-time)

Some experience is preferred however we are more than willing to provide training for the right candidate.

Expectations and Responsibilities

  • Ensure the kitchen is clean, safe, maintained, and well organized

  • Operate dishwasher

  • Maintain a hygienic working environment in accordance with Vancouver Island Health Authority, the Province of British Columbia and the James Bay Inn standards.

  • Assist the Cooks and Servers as needed.

  • Carry out general cleaning as directed to include sweeping, mopping, washing, emptying of empty garbage bins and breaking down boxes. 

  • Clean food prep areas, equipment and utensils 

  • Cleans and sanitizes dishes, pots, pans, utensils, and other minor equipment routinely used in the kitchen.

  • Cleans and maintains floors and walls in kitchen and dish washing area by following standard procedures.

  • Comfortable standing for long periods of time

  • Positive attitude

  • Comfortable working alone and within a team setting

  • Ability to communicate with team and management in positive manner.

  • Assist with prepping food as needed. Including but not limited to mixing, cutting, portioning, garnishing and building food items.

  • Strictly adhere to WHMIS and MSDS guidelines

  • Follow all health and safety standards developed or adhered to by the James Bay Inn.

Evening Line Cook (full-time)

Ideally our preferred candidate would have 4 or more years of working experience on a line. That doesn't mean to say we will not consider someone with less experience but line experience is an absolute must.

Expectations and Responsibilities

  • Ensure the kitchen is clean, safe, maintained, and well organized

  • Maintain a hygienic working environment in accordance with Vancouver Island Health Authority, the Province of British Columbia and the James Bay Inn standards.

  • Comfortable standing for long periods of time

  • Positive attitude

  • Comfortable working alone and within a team setting

  • Ability to communicate with team and management in positive manner.

  • Cooking and prep of food items

  • Preparation of food items including sauces, soups, salads, garnishes, appetizers, proteins and starches.

  • Plate presentation

  • Follow established procedures and standards for cooking with deep fryers, ovens, flat tops and grills. 

  • Have the ability to quickly and accurately plate menu items with care and with an attention to detail.

  • Follow recipes, portion controls and presentation specifications as set by the chef. 

  • Set up, takedown and continued cleanliness of the kitchen line.

  • Follow all health and safety standards developed or adhered to by the James Bay Inn.

  • Have strong organization & time management skills
